The Automobile Club of Moldova is a non-governmental, noncommercial, public association created in 1998. Since 1999, the АСМ is the Member of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Alliance Internationale de Tourism (AIT). The Club is the Member of EASST (Eastern Alliance of Safe and Sustainable Transport, of EuroRAP and iRAP, Global Alliance of NGOS for road safety, and partners of Global NCAP (Global New Car Assessment Programme) and Towards Zero Foundation, Signatory of the European Road Safety Charter.

The Automobile Club of Moldova is the main national promoter of road safety, mobility and automotive development in Moldova. In 2009 the ACM was nominated as a Member of the National Road Safety Council in Moldova, together with the relevant Ministries, in 2010 participated and contributed to the development of the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020 and production of a National 5-Year Plan to improve road traffic and implement road safety measures in Moldova.

As a member of the National Road Safety Council, the ACM is the only NGO that makes direct connection between relevant national and local authorities and society, as well as international community for more effective management of automotive, mobility, sustainable development in automobilism, road traffic management and road safety issues. Twice awarded with the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award (“Road safety enforcement and Policing in Moldova”, “Occupational Road Safety and fleet management in Moldova” projects), the ACM team is qualified in advocacy and implementation of international projects and initiatives aimed to raise public awareness and promote mobility, healthy and green environment, economic and ecological friendly means of transport. The Automobile Club of Moldova has experience in technical services and roadside assistance, conducting road safety surveys (safe cars, safe roads, use of seat belts and child restraints, disabilities on roads, dangerous road traffic behavior: speeding and drink driving).

The ACM developed strong cooperation and sustainable partnership with national authorities from the Parliament and Government (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications, State Road Administration, and National Patrolling Police, Transport Departments and Mayor Offices and LPAs), thus building effective public-private partnership. Together with Police and other partners, ACM lobbied many amendments to the national legislation and road regulations: penalty system, requirements for obtaining driving license, strengthening penalties for drunk driving, use winter tires and day-time low beam lights, seat belt and child restraint use, etc.

The ACM along with EASST and Police Experts of international level has contributed to the National Police Reform in Moldova and improving policing and enforcement field in Moldova. 

Such international organizations as the EU Delegation in Moldova, EBRD, UN, UNDP, WHO, Global NCAP, FIA, FIA Foundation, GRSP, iRAP support the ACM initiatives and actions for better and modern transport, sustainable development, safer roads and environment for all citizens, contributing to the target of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
